This is a must see. If you like history or like old forts you have to see this place. It is the best recreation of an old ort that I have ever seen. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The fort is fitted out just like it would have …
Peace was good business practice.
The Bents and St. Vrain managed to create a vibrant secure prosperous location …
Great recreation of the old fort, reminds me of a John Wayne movie set. Lots of replicas and artifacts from days gone by. 1/4 mile east walk into the fort area. Free entry with national park pass. Dogs are allowed in certain areas.
Excellent place to stop! Brings the history books to life. Travelers should consider visiting a few more local places to add to the experience.
1.) Sand Creek Massacre National monument …
Very glad we took the time to stop and check out this historical sight! The fort was well laid out to make you feel like you were taking a step back in time.
Drove 2.5 hours to see this place and feel it was worth it!! I took the self guided tour, which enabled me to walk around at my own pace. I encourage you to watch the 17-minute video. Very informative. It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot, even if you are parked in handicapped parking.
There are a lot of great Forts to visit and this is one of the better ones. Every room is very detailed to represent the history of the time. Well worth the stop if you are in the area.
A really interesting fort, I loved the hands on experience, and the recreation of life during that time. I enjoyed every minute of that place and learned a lot of history.
If you're into history, this is the place for you. Great reconstruction example on the original site of the Adobe Fur Trading Post along the Santa Fe Trail built in the 1840's. Guided or self guiding tours and living history demonstrations. Worth a visit.
Was a very interesting experience. Was amazing how they were able to recreate it. They did a fabulous job. We really enjoyed walking thru it. Definitely a must stop place. There are picnic tables by the parking lot along with restrooms and there are restrooms in.the fort
